Cub Scouts

Monday night was Anthony's first Pack Meeting for Cub Scouts.  While I was waiting in line to check in, Anthony rapidly ran off to join in the opening games.

He started getting scared when it was almost time for the parents to go into the back of the room to talk business (Mommy, don't leave me he cried), but a Scoutmaster brought a big kid over to be his special friend and he pulled it together.

While I was off volunteering to be a den mother (surprise!), He was happily creating a catapault.

He looking forward to getting his uniform and is excited to sell popcorn, too!  (Other activities to look forward to include camping and an overnight on the USS Hornet.)

Ice Cream Social

Saturday night was our neighborhood's annual ice cream social and movie night.  Even though movie night ended WAY past Anthony's normal bedtime, we let him stay for the show again this year.  This year's movie was "Bedtime Stories" with Adam Sandler.  Fortunately Bob was willing to stay with him, because Adam Sandler gives me hives.

The ice cream social part was fun.  Richie was thrilled to get his very own (melty) ice cream sandwich.  At one point even though his fists were full of ice cream, he was still trying to pick up a piece he'd dropped.  He just couldn't bare to lost a bite of that creamy goodness.

First Graders Are Special

Anthony was thrilled that all the first graders got to celebrate being first graders with an ice cream party!

His crown says, "First Graders are Special".

First Day of School

First Grader at Last!

Friday evening we went over to school to see what classroom Anthony was in.  Much to his disappointment he was in Mrs. P's class--she has a reputation for being very strict and was very concerned.  He doesn't know that his beloved daycare provider is also very strict, and he thrives there, so I think this will be a good fit for him.

Mrs. P was actually in her classroom Friday to meet her new students, so we went in for a quick visit.  I was impressed that Monday morning she greeted Anthony by name!

He came charging out of the classroom at the end of the day with a prize for finishing the day on "purple" (which means he behaved very well.)

We rode our bikes to Baskin-Robbins to celebrate a good start to the school year.

San Francisco Zoo

We hadn't been to the zoo in ages, so we decided to spend Saturday at the San Francisco Zoo.  The best part of the day, ironically, was the amazing new playground.  It was three separate playgrounds in one.  Richie completely rejected the toddler area and went to play on the big tree playground with brother.

Other highlights included the train ride and watching the grizzly bear feeding.  Both boys right next to the glass during feeding time and got to see the bears swimming for their dinner.  I could hear Richie shouting "Oooh" over the delight of the crowd.

Beach Day

I think beach days are my favorite parts of summer.

After lunch Richie was reluctant to put down his aussie bite (which he hadn't eaten) and wanted to carry it around with him.  First he rolled it in sand, then he took it for a dip in the ocean.  THEN he ate it!
