Of course, the highlight of our day was trick-or-treating. Anthony's pal Ciaran came with us for the first half of the night. They had a great time together. While Anthony was certainly motivated to get candy, he was totally fascinated by the decorations, especially the houses that had animatronic decorations. He got good and spooked a few times but always had to go back and investigate.
I think he was out for nearly an hour and a half total--Bob and I took turns so that we each got to share in the fun. Now, we did walk slowly and spend a lot of time admiring the decorations. Its a good thing Anthony brought in a good haul, though, as we ended up needing reserve candy.
I think we had a record number of trick-or-treaters this year. The main treat I gave out this year was books that I had bought at our library's used book sale. I think I had almost 40 books plus one bag of candy (about 45 pieces). We used up ALL of that! Then we started giving away Anthony's candy. He had a great time pulling candy out of his bag and putting it into the other kids bags. Don't worry, he still has plenty left!
Our block's second annual Holloween Spectacular was this afternoon. Bob put together a little scavenger hunt for the kids to play and then we had potluck dinner at our house. Fortunately the weather was nice and everyone was able to eat in the back yard!
The group photo below doesn't quite have everyone. We're missing at least 3 kids.
Anthony was very excited to "help" Daddy carve the pumpkin this afternoon. Unfortunately, he refused to help where it was genuinely wanted--cleaning the goop out of the pumpkin. He found the whole process fascinating and it kept his attention amazingly well.
As I expected, though, Anthony did protest when Daddy started cutting the pumpkin!
Today we went up to Hiller Aviation Museum for their annual Halloween festivities. Anthony enjoyed decorating a bat, playing some games and exploring the gallery.
The highlight was the witch, of course. We were able to visit with her in the gallery before the pumpkin drop and autograph the pumpkin. Then all the kids were an honor guard to escort her to the helicopter. The helicopter took off, made a loop around the traffic pattern and then the witch dropped the pumpkin out of the helicopter.
Somehow I missed the actual pumpkin drop. I think I was too busy watching Bob and Anthony. Oh well, there's always next year.
