Baby's First Bath

Anthony had his first bath today. He hated it about as much as I expected. (Technically his first bath was in the hospital when he was about an hour old, but this is the first one I gave him.)

These pictures are before the fun actually started. Clearly Anthony had no idea what was going to happen when that scary washcloth touched him. We don't have any picture of the actual bath itself because I needed Bob's help holding the wiggling, SCREAMING, squirmy boy.

Once I was done (I was pretty darn quick), we wrapped him up in his little hooded towel and he was happy again.

And so nice and clean!!!

Tigger the Cat

Various people have asked how Tigger feels about having a baby in the house. Now, she doesn't use her words very well, so its a bit hard to interpret. But, we think she doesn't care much one way or the other. She pretty much ignores the baby. She still hangs out with her people all the time, though. (Which means, of course, that she hangs out with Anthony, too.) I wonder if she realizes that Anthony is now her people??

I think she is enjoying having us home all day, though.

I know that Anthony will love her when he gets bigger. Hopefully she will return the love. Or, at least tolerate it well.

Relaxing

There's nothing like a food coma after a nice long meal. I love it when he gets his goofy little milky smile. Of course, we know its not a real smile but rather a sign of rumblings down below. Its still very sweet and makes my heart melt. (Unfortunately they are fleeting so we haven't captured it on camera yet.)

We are definitely looking forward to getting real smiles from Munchkin, though we know it won't happen too soon.

And on a somewhat unrelated note: He who vociferously objects to his face and hair being washed should think twice about choosing to pee on his head!!

First Doctor Appointment

Okay, but first check out this photo. Anthony found his thumb for the first time. We know it was on accident, but he sure enjoyed sucking on it. Of course, he did keep stabbing himself in the eye at the same time. (We used the soft-focus setting on Picasa to get the cool effect.)

On to his first doctor appointment. We really liked his doctor. I'm not sure he did, as the first things that happens is being naked, and he hates being naked. Anthony has regained his birthweight and weighed in at 8 pounds, 1 oz. Doctor was pleased. His little umbilical cord is drying out nicely; we're looking forward to him having a belly button. The rest of him all check out healthy, too.

He's got a little bit of jaundice still, but at normal levels. We're trying to give him little sun baths every morning in the living room. She said that since he's eating well he's in good shape.

We're keeping him on the soy formula since his older siblings needed it.

All is well.

Settling in at home

So we've been settling in at home. So far, we're doing really well. Anthony can sleep as much as 4 hours at a stretch during the night.

Things he likes:
1. Being swaddled. I'm pretty good at using receiving blankets, but especially at night we LOVE his Swaddle blanket. Thanks to the Stockman's and Kristen at work!
2. Eating. He is a good eater. He'll eat between 1 1/2 and 2 ounces every 3 hours so far.
3. Snoozing in our arms.
4. And, of course, pooping. He definitely likes to poop mid-feeding.

Things he doesn't like:
1. Getting his diaper changed (unfortuately he needs a lot of that)
He hasn't had a bath since coming home, but we're sure we can add that to the list soon.

He's also gotten to meet a few of the neighbors. There's a ton of kids in the neighborhood that he'll be able to play with when he gets bigger.

Pictures

Some of our first pictures.

Here is Victoria holding baby Anthony. He'd been cleaned up a little, but he hasn't had his first sponge bath yet.

(You can see in this picture that he inherited a cute little nose from his Great Grandfather Navarro. First thing that everyone said when they saw him, "He has the Navarro nose".)

Here's Victoria's grandmother holding the little guy.

One of our first pictures taken with Mr. Anthony. He definitely likes being a little burrito boy!

It might be a surprise after all!

Let's see...

Well, we might have to re-name this blog. Victoria had a doctor appointment and it appears that Munchkin might actually be a girl! She might be a girl wearing a camouflage flight suit and a onesie that says "Daddy's little wingman". Better that than a boy wearing a little pink dress!

I think we've picked out a girl's name combination. Now we're just waiting for the baby to come! Its kind of exciting having it be a surprise all of a sudden!

We've Taken Our Class!

Tonight was our infant care class. It was a little strange being the very-obviously non-pregnant woman in the room. But, it was okay.

Truthfully I didn't learn much, mostly because I've been reading/preparing for years now. But it was definitely reassuring. I think Bob learned more.

Its funny, I'm pretty darn confident that I have changed diapers before, but its probably been 20 years. I did so much babysitting in high school, and mom did in-home day care, I must have changed a diaper.

Bob claims to be a newbie, though. But, I have every confidence that he will be a pro soon enough!

Oh yeah, note to self: El Camino hospital is a long walk from the house. I always thought of it as being just on the other side of the park. Well, it is, but it still took us almost 1/2 an hour to walk there and back.

Munchkin's Room

Here's some pictures we've taken of Munchkin's room. I think we're just about done!

For the past 4 years we essentially used this room to store art supplies. It had Karin's big cabinet of rubber stamps, the enlarger, mat cutter and drymount press, 4 cameras and a bunch of lenses and about a gazillion framed photographs.

We've done a good job sorting/organizing and consolidating that gear. (Although we still need to find a home for the drymount press.)

We worked pretty hard to get the nursery ready. We needed new baseboards cut (they were removed after the Great Water Heater Flood of 2006). Bob mastered his mitre-saw. As I told him, you bought the toy, you get to use the toy!

Bob also did most of the painting as I seem to be the queen of brushmarks. For those who care, below the chair rail the color is Christopher Robin's Swing and the sky blue is Thoughtful Spot.

Putting together the crib was an adventure in itself. We discovered that the directions were not including in the crib box. While I was on-hold trying to get the directions faxed to us (success!) he figured out how it all worked! Nothing like being married to an engineer!!!

The room came with a great organizer system built in. We removed the closet doors, though as there were two doors but three sections of the organizer. With the doors in place, the middle shelves are essentially useless.

Note the presence of Bob's new dump truck. Vince still has Bob's childhood one, we're leaving it in Omaha for Munchkin to play with there.

You can't tell so well from these pictures, but the crib has the Winnie the Pooh collection inside, including a "My First Pooh", Tigger and Eeyore. They were shower gifts from Jessica.

I think we're just about ready for Munchkin to make an appearance!!!

Weekend In Omaha

So, we had our last weekend away without children!!!

Bob's cousin Matt got married in Omaha last weekend. It was a great weekend, the whole family was there. And, when dealing with Bob's family, the phrase "the whole family" means something!! There were over 400 people at the wedding, well over a third of that was family.

My sisters-in-law threw a really nice shower for us Friday night. I think there were close to 50 people there. Its really wonderful how supportive everyone is! I got the opportunity to spend time with some of his family that I'd never really talked to before like Sister Regina and T and Bob. I really am blessed to have joined such a welcoming family. Munchkin got some cute new clothes, lots with an airplane theme. My FIL also pulled Bob's old Tonka truck out of the basement. We're leaving that one in Omaha to play with there and brought home the new one for Munchkin when he gets big enough to play.

Jessica put together an album with the advice everyone has given us. I'd say that the best came from Dave who reminded us that babies should not use the automated litter box, no matter how cool it is. (I don't think we're going to let Uncle Dave babysit!)

Having a good weekend

We flew ourselves up to Sonoma yesterday to meet up with Dennis and Amy, friends of Bob from work. They live on the Peninsula during the week, but spend every weekend in Sonoma. We want to the Di Rosa Art Preserve http://www.dirosapreserve.org/index.html Some neat stuff, some wierd stuff. I liked the Rhinosaurus Car the best.

http://www.dirosapreserve.org/gallery/gallery_4.html.

Today is chores. Nothing exciting, though. We need to do a little more work on the nursery (it really is nearly done). We also have friends offering us their hand-me-downs, so we need to go check those out. And last, but not least, we really do need to buy a crib.

We're going away for labor day, so we really do need to get some of this done now.

(I also need to work at personalizing our little blog just a little bit.) All things in good time.

Its my first post of our new blog.

We've been matched with V for a little over a month now, and are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Mr. Munchkin. (We're not sharing our name ideas with anyone yet.)

We've painted the nursery and started shopping!
So far we have a handful of clothes (most with Winnie the Pooh on them), some bottles and formula and a carseat. Haven't bought any diapers yet, better fix that before the little guy arrives!
